Awesome Hippo Facts

1. Hippos are HUGE!

   • Adult hippos can weigh 3,000–4,000 pounds (1,400–1,800 kg). That’s as much as a small car!

2. They live in water… but can’t swim!

   • Hippos spend most of their time in rivers and lakes. But they don’t actually swim — they walk or bounce along the bottom.

3. They love mud baths

   • Mud helps keep their skin cool and safe from the sun. They also make mud puddles to nap in!

4. Hippos are herbivores

   • They eat mostly grass and can munch up to 80 pounds in one night!
